Event Team Application [Accepted]

Describe your activity
Online on a daily basis, be it on Discord or on MazeRP itself.
I currently have over 3 weeks of playtime since server release on December 17th, which gives me an average of 3 hours a day since then.
I also play on SchoolRP, so I can free up some time spent over there if needed.
And if you’re wondering, I balance this activity quite well with my personal life, so no worries over there.

What's your motivation for applying?
I have multiple motivations, so I’ll go over each of them:

I - Settling minor lore inconsistencies

From my experience so far on the server, the player base oriented towards roleplay is pretty receptive to the lore revolving around in-game mechanics.

How can we justify the way Grievers spawn?
How do Gladers make it back with the same character, after having technically died in the Maze?
Why does it rain in the Glade?
Why is one trial not available?
How exactly do potions work?
How do WCKD treasure loot appear?

Those are examples of questions that players may think of during their gameplay, and they will often be met with the answer that it’s just game mechanics and has nothing to do with the lore itself. I have already worked on some of those questions to provide players with “lore-friendly” answers, but I wish to be part of the Lore Team to provide complete documents that could be used as references regarding those questions, instead of just making guesses.

Answering those questions is not necessarily a priority considering all the duties of the Lore Team, but I think that addressing them could still help provide a more immersive experience for the players.

II - Content
Now, onto the main purpose of being a Lore Team member: Lore itself.
As of today, lore documents are accessible by exploring and looting the Maze, and are contained inside books or journals that give further information about the area where they are usually found (planes, sections, trials, etc.).
The biggest constraint with those books is that they are restricted to text and give little to no freedom regarding the kind of content we are able to provide.

As much as I would love to take part in writing those journals, I also wish to develop MazeRP’s Lore through documents that would be available on the forums. That kind of format is something SchoolRP players are very familiar with, as their forums list many Lore documents that can be accessed through In-Game actions: clicking on a sign while investigating bookshelves, looking around ruins, etc.

Of course, to avoid any kind of meta-gaming, advanced lore information would still be contained in precious journals that should then be brought back to the Glade. The purpose of the forum Lore documents would be to provide general lore content which could be assumed to be known by players over their time spent in the Glade: it is assumed that their character heard tales of those, through rumors and word-to-mouth.

III - Teasing & Rewards
This point has a lot to do with my current activity as an Event Team member: as much as I believe Events to be a key point in attracting players and providing them an immersive setting, it is not possible without any close work with the Lore Team.

Lore content shares with Events this fabulous ability to be both a reward and a teasing content. To put it in simpler terms, you can use lore to tease an event, and you can use an event to tease lore. Depending on the order you’re doing it, it brings many different results and, as such, much more content for the players to experience.

Over my past works along the Lore Team (especially Pyrus, hello Pyrus if you’re reading this), I enjoyed thinking with them about lore elements, and their links to future events. It has reached a point where I often wished I were part of the Lore Team, just to have the opportunity to completely go over these elements. That’s why I'm finally applying!

IV - The server itself
My playtime may have already betrayed the affection I have for this server. As I’ve mentioned in my past application, when I really like things, I want to invest myself in them. This has always been the case in my personal life (being a game master, club secretary, etc.) and does apply to MazeRP as I truly love this server. I know that many players won’t log on even if they want to if they notice that they would be alone on the server, so I sometimes log on for the sole purpose of having someone around the map, and to be available. I really look forward to seeing the server develop into a place where even more players can gather together, and I wish to be a cool piece of the big MRP puzzle, creating those opportunities.

What can you bring to the team?

Motivation
In case you haven’t guessed already from my wall of text about my motivations, I am very much motivated, and I know that motivation is a key factor in boosting teams to complete tasks. I have procrastinated many of my college assignments to the point of just staring at my screen rather than writing anything (and stopping after 20 minutes of course), but here I am, writing this entire application in one go with all the energy in the world… Don’t worry, I’ll still review it later before publishing it, as always.

Roleplay experiences
I could copy/paste the details of all roleplaying experiences I had so far but won’t, as to spare your brain. To sum it up in a few sentences instead of whole blocks of text, I’m experienced in:
  • Online roleplaying, mainly on Instagram, for 9 years (damn, I just realized it’s been 9 years already, it’s kind of crazy)
  • Tabletop roleplaying (including being an active game/dungeon master in many settings, mostly horror ones) for 3 years
  • Live-Action Roleplaying (or “LARP”) for 3 years, which has mostly developed my ability to consider the human aspect of roleplaying and how players react to diverse content. I did many NPC roles to tease scenario content, etc.
  • Minecraft roleplay! I first discovered roleplay with Minecraft, and my very first RP was on a Creative server where I built a huge school for other players to roleplay inside (crazy days). Today, I roleplay both on SchoolRP and MazeRP.

SchoolRP knowledge
While SRP and MRP are two very distinct servers, it’s only reasonable to acknowledge that an important part of the player base is from SRP and, as such, it is useful to have someone who knows how SRP works, to make it easier for new players adapting to MRP.

Two prompts will be provided below, fill them out with your best writing abilities! Make sure it aligns with MazeRP’s existing lore as much as possible.

Prompt #1 (200+ words): Write a story about a character arriving at the Glade for the first time through the box. The prompt can be written from any perspective.

A dismal rain drenched the Glade on this late fall afternoon.
The Gladers had, for the most part, sought refuge within the primitive constructions scattered amidst the four immutable walls that imposed the frame of their lone reality.

Experienced Med-Jacks were scolding their juniors, distracted by the raindrops instead of their chores; Cooks were rekindling the flames of their furnaces for the upcoming dinner, while Track-Hoes rejoiced in the event as it made their lands fertile.

At last, covered by the canopy of leaves from Alby's tree, four out-of-breath Runners were busy unfastening their harnesses. The leather straps seemed to saw into their bones through the linen fabrics, soaked from the rain and exertion.

Without notice, the sound of a horn blared across the Glade, carrying a very concise message: the Box was rising once again!
In a few strides, the Runners arrived first on the scene, contemplating the mechanical opening of the Box with a mixture of apprehension, curiosity, and desolation.

With creaks and clanks of metal, its doors then stretched open, revealing the curled-up silhouette of a child barely in his early teenage years, clinging to the enclosure of the Box as if his life depended on it. While the other Gladers hastily joined the small group, a Runner leaned down, his hand open and his smile radiant despite the dark sky.

“Rise and shine Greenie, welcome to the Glade!”

In a hiccup of shock and incomprehension, the child raised a pale face whose tear streaks on the cheeks merged with those left by the rain, while inquiring in a trembling voice,

“The Glade...?”

Prompt #2 (200+ words): Create a story about the conflict between the Gladers and the Banished. The prompt can be written from any perspective.

Leaning against the trunk at the top of his tree, Alby observed silently as the last rays of sunlight burned his skin. The hour was well advanced and, though rare for him, his gradual anxiety manifested itself in the nervous pounding and scratching on the damaged bark.

Looking down the long corridor introducing the Maze, he then began to distinguish the shapes of a group in the distance. Without missing a beat, he slid down the wooden ladder, balancing himself with the help of a few vines. Stepping hastily towards the gate, a feeling of dread began to kick in: there were far more people than expected, and the harsh voices echoing along the stone walls clearly didn't augur well.

The sentiment was soon replaced by relief when he recognized the familiar faces of the four Runners who had left for an expedition earlier that day, before Alby suddenly tensed up, defensive, recognizing faces he would not have wished to see again: eight Banished Gladers flanked the expedition, their clothes stained with blood and grime.

One of them stepped forward, a gleam of hatred and satisfaction giving a sinister glint to his eye. On his way to the border separating their two universes, he grabbed one of the Runners by the hair and dragged him along without any regard, then hurled him onto the rocky ground. A foul smile stretching across his lips, he called out,

"That is yours, huh?"

The boy on the ground lay in a sorry state, his face scarred by the blows and his features hollowed out by exhaustion. Alby's throat knotted as he lifted him up, helping him to his feet. His voice betraying anger, he replied curtly

"What do you want from us?"

The Banished burst into a sinister, nervous laugh tinged with contempt.

"What we want, ah yes, what we want... You see, Alby, I'd have answered for your skin and the sweet sound of your pleas, for kicking us out. But we live worse than dogs here, so much that we find ourselves capturing your little kids for a few fucking resources to last us maybe another week."

He paused, sweeping his gaze over the lands denied to him and added,

"Grief Serum. All of your stocks."

Alby squinted, realizing immediately the weight of the request: a shortage of Grief Serums necessarily meant the impossibility of making new expeditions before replenishment, and that amounted to offering precious days to the Banished to prepare unpleasant purposes. If they were willing to exchange four lives for the mere opportunity, then there were many more lives to be lost among the Gladers, at least according to their beliefs.
Balancing the pitiful Runner with his spare hand, he felt the wounded ribcage rise with increasing difficulty. The boy was agonizing.

"...Fine."

With a brief nod, Alby pointed homestead to a Med-Jack who had come closer, noting the gravity of the situation. As the latter rushed to the place, he seated the young Runner before unhooking a flask from his belt, sharing a few precious sips of water to the wounded one. Contemplating the scene, the Banished man added scornfully,

"Say, Alby, how does it feel to live like a fucking hypocrite? Protecting and taking care of your Runners, your little favorites, while ignoring the kids whose lives you've deemed so pointless that you sent them off to the Maze?"

In reply, Alby simply retrieved the bag that had just been brought to him, casting a worried eye over the precious resources that had been snatched from them before tossing it into the Maze. Immediately, the Banished who had overpowered the other three Runners released them, leaving them to stagger hastily through the massive walls, which were beginning to rumble and scrape the ground. Staring resentfully at Alby, the Banished spat one last time before the Door completed its movement

"You're nobody, Alby. You have no rights nor author-"

The walls muffled the last words thus spoken, letting a heavy silence fall over the Gladers gathered behind the man they considered their guide. Without turning around, Alby coldly announced:

"Bring me the Bagger Keeper."
